An Embedded Network is a type of electrical network you’ll find in a privately owned and operated multi-tenant development.

The consumption of this network is consolidated to a single connection point called a Parent Meter. These meters connect directly to the National Electricity Market (NEM), which is used for all purchases of your electricity.

Electricity is then ‘on-sold’ to each customer in your development based on measured consumption. Whoever owns, controls or operates the embedded network in your building is referred to as the Exempt Embedded Network Service provider (EENSP). With a smart management plan, the electricity rates and carbon footprint of an Embedded Network can be reduced.

How we manage Embedded Networks

Most Embedded Networks in the National Electricity Market (NEM) must appoint an accredited Embedded Network Manager (ENM).  If a resident of your building wishes to choose their own electricity provider, you will definitely have to appoint an ENM. Your ENM will be responsible for creating the National Meter Identifier (NIM) used to purchase electricity from the market for that customer.

ENM Solutions can take on all the responsibilities of being your Embedded Network Manager (ENM). We offer a unique service that eliminates the need for billing or retail services. Our purpose-built systems take care of the creation and management of On-Market Child Meters, NMIs, and customers of your NEM. So ENM Solutions is very capable of assisting any Embedded Networks that need to appoint an ENM.

Why choose an Embedded Network?

There are several advantages to choosing an embedded network for your multi-unit dwelling. As an embedded Network customer, you will be able to do the following:

  • Gain access to consumer protections and government schemes
  • Choose from a wide variety of electrical products and services
  • Select the pricing and structure of your electricity supply

An embedded network gives you access to retail competition in the form of electricity providers. You will have the option to choose custom payment options that suit your preferences. So if you want to take advantage of all the perks of having an Embedded Network, you must appoint an Embedded Network Manager for your building.

Embedded Network and Solar Requirements for Structures

Although not widely discussed, embedded networks can provide benefits to properties of all types – for example, shopping centres, office buildings, retirement facilities and apartment buildings. One of the most compelling benefits is the lowering of energy costs for not only tenants, but also for owners, owners’ corporations and developers. At ENM Solutions, we help reduce costs for all kinds of fields and industries through our embedded network solutions.

The Difference Between Embedded And Classic Network Providers

The difference between an embedded network provider and a classic service provider can often come down to rates. The majority of classic service providers have substantial rates as they provide energy independently to each tenant. However, with an embedded network provider, the contract is between the building owners and the energy retailer, which results in the on-selling of electricity to tenants at a lower cost. In short, embedded networks can lead to win-win situations for tenants, building supervisors and property owners

Embedded Networks in Apartment Communities

Embedded electricity network options are typical sights in apartment blocks that are completely private. They are especially common in recent building developments, as the electrical wiring is set up so that the building owner, or owners’ corporation can on-sell the energy to all residents.
